I was surprised at how heavy the globe is and I'd swear that is is glass. The wooden base is real wood and takes stain nicely.

This little solar system light is precious and everything I was hoping for! My favorite part is that the planets are labeled and you can actually read them when you look at it, even when the light is off. It shines much brighter than I would expect. The light comes from the wooden stand and illuminates the ball when you put it on there. The planetary names are so great because I can use it as a teaching tool as the kids already love to look at it and hold it.
